From Ahamefula Ogbu in Port Harcourt, 07.03.2006
A new dimension was weekend added to the resource control agitation in the Niger Delta as Ijaws under the aegis of Ijaw Association for Oil and Gas Producing Communities (IAOGPC) demanded that hitherto, the Federal Government should give the 13 per cent now paid to states to them for direct development of their areas.
i visited oruma community in bayelsa state on the 16 of june in company of lars, ifiemi, tina, peter, and jome. on arrival, jome and lars had to stop by at the bridge to take some shots, while ifiemi and tina went on to make arrangement to meet with the community women.i and peter went to see one of the opinion leader in the community rev.oguru. much more later, we assembled in the community hall to get interview
from the community women. in the interview one striken story was that of a young lady and a middle aged woman. this is what the lady said . because the river is were we use to go to toilet, i went to toilet to free my self from nature call, but my father called me back and said , dont go because the water has been polluted by shell.i insisted that i must go because the river is were

Tales from ORUMA...
I was at Oruma-Ogbia yesterday in the company of some colleagues and some local folks. Oil spills have been a recurrent challenge here. Now a pipeline is adding to their woes. The community forest has been devastated and the usually precarious access is now almost impossible. Oruma is home to a neglected people, typical of the Niger Delta; a determined people, typical of the Niger Delta.

Community appeals against stay- of -execution order over gas flaring
THE Iwerekan Community in Delta State has filed a notice of Appeal against the ruling of the Court of Appeal granting a stay- of- execution on the order of a Benin Federal High court ordering Shell to stop gas flaring in that community by April 30, 2007.
This kind of news report shows the underlying reason why there is so much neglect in the Niger Delta and also why there is so much discontent. Some people are playing games with the revenue generated from crude oil...while all the local people of the Niger Delta contend with degradation and unfulfilled promises.
